Janos Palffy was a Hungarian noble and imperial field marshal while from 1741 he was also palatine of Hungary and hereditary captain of Bratislava. He studied in Hungary and Wien only to graduate in Parma. In 1681 he decides for a military career. With his guardsmen regiments he participated in the Battle of Senta, in the left wing under the command of Lieutenant general Vodemont. In 1710 he became the high commander of the army of Upper Hungary as well as the commander of the Imperial army. He was engaged in the Battle of Petrovaradin and the sieges of Timisoara and Belgrade. His main achievement is considered to be reaching the Treaty of Szatmar in 1711. While palatine Janos Palffy crowned Maria Theresa queen in 1741.
